The GFA Bud Light Women’s League FIRST ROUND Playoffs

During the first round, the seeding of the matches were scheduled based on rankings. Orange Crushers who is ranked number 1 was scheduled to challenge ranked number 8 Guahan.com. Unfortunately, Guahan.com had series of unfortunate event that prevented them from fielding a full team or at least a minimum of 8 players. Orange Crushers win the game by forfeit.

The next game played was during the hot point of the day between Guam Shipyard and Bombers. Bombers couldn’t get their bearings to hold out a few of the Shipyard players as Shipyard wins 9-0. During the first half, Rose San Nicolas took the first goal for Shipyard at the 9th minute of the game and Diedre Weakly scored the next two goals and Jessi Santos found the next to give Shipyard a lead of 4-0 at half time.

In the second half, Victoria Shimizu scored two goals along with other teammates Ginalynn Naburn, Jennalynn Pepito and Tara Mallari scoring one goal apiece. Bombers couldn’t get their bearings to hold out a few of the Shipyard players as Shipyard wins 9-0.

The next two games played at 3:00 today held spectators in suspense by switching field from upper field to lower at GFA Harmon field as Hyundai and Pacificare Tigers challenged each other for the win and Paintco Strykers and Quality face each other for the next round.

During the first half of the match between Paintco Strykers vs Quality match, Strykers strikers Anadee Garcia and Aubrey Posadas scored all the goals to give their team a lead of 7-0. Aubrey’s quick and follow through gave her four goals while Annadee power and quickness gave her 3 goals. During the second half, Strykers scorers Jacqueline Calvo scored two goals while other teammates Rhoda Bamba, Hannah Ainbinder and Jasmine Asuncion scored one goal apiece to give the Strykers team a win of 12-0 against Quality.

While the Strykers vs Quality game was going on, Hyundai and Pacificare Tiger’s game held a completely different outlook. The suspense kept the spectators on the edge of their feet as many opportunities were given to both teams. Alexy Barbe scored the first goal in the 25th minute of the game to give Pacificare Tigers the lead for the team. All the while, Hyundai battled through for a comeback. With one minute left of the game, Hyundai Leann Meeks made a run on the right side of the field while her teammate fed a through ball to space for her to run up to. She dribbled toward the goal and made the goal to tie up the game for Hyundai.

Since it is playoff, no one can leave the field with a draw. Two (2) five minute golden goal was played and still no winner. To the spectators’ suspense, it was time for Penalty Kicks.

Due to High School games scheduled on Saturday afternoons, all Women’s League Playoffs will be rescheduled to Sunday afternoon.  This will ease up the scheduling of referees, safety of the players and to ease up the conflict of scheduling.
