1. How old were you when you started playing soccer?

J. Abarintos: 4 years old recreational; 9 years old competitive.

2. How did you get involved with soccer?

J. Abarintos:Parents enrolled me into the youth center sports’ program.

3. What positions have you played?

J. Abarintos:Wings, midfielder, forward.

4. Which position is your most favorite and least favorite? And why?

J. Abarintos:Wings for both because I love playing that position and it also includes the fact that I’ve experienced it for awhile, but there’s a lot of running to it.

5. How would you describe your experience on the national team?

J. Abarintos:The first actual experience on a national team competitively was the AFC U19 Women’s Championship in Taipei, Taiwan.  I thought it was going to be overwhelming in certain points, but I loved every bit of it from game time to relaxing as a team.

6. What would you like to share with all the other female soccer athletes about playing soccer for the national team?

J. Abarintos:Even though it is hard work and a load of commitment, the outcome of the training and everything you went through is all worth it.

7. What is the best part about training?

J. Abarintos:What you get out of it when you give it your all every time.

8. What is the hardest part about training?

J. Abarintos:Staying committed to reach the goal.

9. If you were to do it all over again, would you?

J. Abarintos:Of course.

10. What tips or secret ingredient would you give to others that desire to be on the national team?

J. Abarintos:Persevere in everything and anything you do, including soccer.

11. If you were a spokesperson for Guam Football Association Women’s Football and you need to give a speech to inspire your fellow female athletes, what would you say to promote soccer?

J. Abarintos:It’s a lot of fun getting ready for the competition even through the toughest times because everyone is cheering you on to get better and better.  And once it does come to competition and you do your best to get to where you were, it’s all worth the while in the end.

12. What is your fondest memory of playing soccer?

J. Abarintos:The FIFA walk at the first game; it game me a huge feeling of excitement just when we went through the entrance, felt professional, and of course, scoring my first two international goals and winning the game.

13. What has been your biggest disappointment in football?

J. Abarintos:The amount of money going to the boys when the girls, I think, are doing so much better than them.

14. What is your favorite type of music?

J. Abarintos:I don’t really have a favorite type that I can just choose.

15. Favorite book?

J. Abarintos:Premonitions by Jude Watson

16. Your favorite film?

J. Abarintos:Any of the Pirates of the Caribbean, Goal: Where Dreams Begin, Bend it like Beckham, Stomp the Yard or Honey

17. Your favorite city?

J. Abarintos:Las Vegas, NV

18. Favorite hobby?

J. Abarintos:Other than soccer, I like to get out with family and friends, chat, myspace, or other stuff on the computer, or reading when I’m really bored.

19.  Who has been the most influential figure to you?

J. Abarintos:Amy Atkinson because she proved to me that it is possible to get honored in academics and a scholarship for soccer, and that’s what I’m going for.  She gave me that extra confidence and helped me believe that I can do anything if I really want it.

20. What is your main strength?

J. Abarintos:I think my main strength is my drive to win, my competitiveness.

21. What qualities do you appreciate?

J. Abarintos: I appreciate respect, commitment, perseverance, and confidence from others and myself.

22. What are you afraid of?

J. Abarintos: I’m afraid of receiving disappointment because I’m part of the fault.  I’m also afraid of ending something or leaving something I enjoyed.

23. Who would you most like to meet?

J. Abarintos:I wouldn’t mind meeting Mia Hamm to learn how she went through her soccer career and just any other random stuff.

24. Where do you see yourself in 3 years in regards to soccer?

J. Abarintos:A junior at Bellevue West Senior High School soccer team, ODP player in Nebraska, part of the U17 or U18 Gladiator’s Club.

25. What are your goals/ambitions?

J. Abarintos:I want to get a scholarship in both academics and athletics at University of Notre Dame or University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
