1. How old were you when you started playing soccer?

K. Thompson: I was 8 or 9 years old.

2. How did you get involved with soccer?

K. Thompson: Friends and parents.

3. What positions have you played?

K. Thompson: I think that I have played just about everywhere even goalie when I was really little.

4. Which position is your most favorite and least favorite? And why?

K. Thompson: My favorite position is striker because I like to score goals.  My least favorite is goalie or defense because a lot of pressure is on you to not let the other team score.

5. How would you describe your experience on the national team?

K. Thompson: I have loved the challenge of playing at this level of play, the friends that I have made on the team have been some of the closest friends I have ever had.  It is an amazing feeling to represent my island internationally.  My favorite part of it all is when you stand out on the field and hear your island anthem play and see your flag.  I still get goose bumps every time!

6. What would you like to share with all the other female soccer athletes about playing soccer for the national team?

K. Thompson: I would encourage them to just keep playing hard and working hard, the basics that are taught at the youngest level of soccer is still what we work on so I would say just keep working on the basics and go for it and try out for the teams and just see what happens.

7. What is the best part about training?

K. Thompson: I think that the best part is when I get in the car afterwards and I am so exhausted and tired.  Just to have a good feeling of having accomplished something and finished yet another hard day on the field and done my best at it.

8. What is the hardest part about training?

K. Thompson: The hardest part is just how time consuming it is.  It is really hard because I know we have so much to work on but we all have work and family obligations since we are not paid full0time soccer players.  It is a juggling act to stay ahead at work when all you really want to do is rest for training that night.

9. If you were to do it all over again, would you?

K. Thompson: Yes, I love the ladies and I love the sport!

10. What tips or secret ingredient would you give to others that desire to be on the national team?

K. Thompson: The biggest thing is just the BASICS (passing, trapping, fitness) these are the things that are overlooked so many times but this is soccer.

11. If you were a spokesperson for Guam Football Association Women’s Football and you need to give a speech to inspire your fellow female athletes, what would you say to promote soccer?

K. Thompson: I would say that the amazing thing about soccer is that unlike American football or baseball, soccer does not need a lot of equipment so ANYONE can play!  It takes skill, yes, to play well but anyone can play and have fun.  It is a sport that can bring communities together.  It can bring together all classes of people and all races of people.  This sport is so important to the communities here on Guam!  So many kids get to know each other and their neighbors through this sport it is amazing!

12. What is your fondest memory of playing soccer?

K. Thompson: Oh wow, that is easy.  It is the feeling when we were in Fiji playing against Fiji in the SPG and I scored the goal.   I can’t describe it and when the last whistle blew and I realized that we had done it, we had won!  It was just 1-0 and it was the greatest feeling.

13. What has been your biggest disappointment in football?

K. Thompson: It has been when we have worked so hard as a team and the board has decided not to let us go to tournaments.  That is the worst feeling ever.

14. What is your favorite type of music?

K. Thompson: Country, movie soundtracks.

15. Favorite book?

K. Thompson: I love the CSI Book series

16. Your favorite film?

K. Thompson: CSI: TV Series

17. Your favorite city?

K. Thompson: Boston, MA

18. Favorite hobby?

K. Thompson: Hanging out with my family and friends.

19.  Who has been the most influential figure to you?

K. Thompson: My parents by far they have always been there for me and they have always encouraged me to keep going.

20. What is your main strength?

K. Thompson: I love to help people.  I am really diligent in what I do.  I am a hard worker.

21. What qualities do you appreciate?

K. Thompson: Diligence, loyalty, perseverance.

22. What are you afraid of?

K. Thompson: Failure.

23. Who would you most like to meet?

K. Thompson: Mia Hamm.

24. Where do you see yourself in 3 years in regards to soccer?

K. Thompson: I hope to still be playing but who knows, I would love to coach girls in the future.

25. What are your goals/ambitions?

K. Thompson: To continue to play soccer for awhile, coach younger girls and inspire them to keep playing hard.  Eventually, coach ladies when I am older as I think it is so important for girls to have a coach who is a girl who understands them.
