Women’s National Team Basic Policy – 2007
PRACTICE AND GAME DAYS
Practices and game days allow our players to gain an opportunity to improve their skills and teamwork in preparation for the national team selection as well as tournament. Practices are scheduled in accordance to the upcoming events; however, they can be changed at any moments notice. Schedule will be verbally announced at practices/games and posted on the GFA Website under the Women’s Program (www.guamfootball.com).
Players are expected to have all their gears on and ready to go including their checked out practice jerseys 15 minutes prior to the start time of practice.
ATTENDANCE
It is expected that players attend all practices scheduled. It is the player’s responsibility to sign in at each practice. At end of each practice, this will be validated against number of players attended for the session for accuracy.
One of the criteria for the selection process will be based on attendances. Players must attend at least 75% of all scheduled practices. This will be evaluated on a monthly basis, as well as on overall basis.
There are times when unforeseen circumstances and other conflicts will prevent players from attending scheduled practice(s). If a player is unable to attend practice, they are required to call Coach Kim 988-3939 and/or Coach Cheri 688-1279 at least 2 hours prior to the start of practices or games, except for emergency situations. If unable to reach them in person, leave a detailed message.
EQUIPMENT
The player’s uniform during practice consists of soccer shoes, shinguards, soccer socks, soccer shorts and blue soccer shirt/jerseys. At each practice, GFA will provide each player a practice jersey to wear during practice. The players will check out the jersey (sign-in) and wear the jersey provided for training. At the end of practice, the checked-out jersey will be returned and signed-out.
COMMITMENT
To reach the ultimate level of training and obtain team performance expectations, commitment from each player is required. Commitment comes from passion and a strong mental, emotional, physiological, and psychological base. At each practice, there must be full commitment to train at 110% for the entire session.
The attitude on and off the field must be maintained at all times. This is how we represent Guam, our family, friends, and ourselves. Each of us has a responsibility to be a good example for the future of Guam Football as a whole, more especially, the women’s program.
Teamwork must be the main focus in order to be successful. Please keep all personal negativities of one another outside of the pitch. It is the coaches’ desire to find players to fit into the team chemistry. If poor sportsmanship, negative attitude toward another team player, lack of encouragement and trust are detected, this will immediately jeopardize the player’s position on the team and the success of the team.
JOURNAL
Upon selecting the 25 players, they will be issued a notebook in which they will record their journal of the practice sessions. This is to record the drills conducted, coaching points, additional notes of emphasis as well as their overall view of their training (i.e., strength, weaknesses, overall team performance).
Based on previous trips and other experienced players, this has been found most helpful in players improve their overall mental, physical and emotional preparedness for practices and games.
At times, coaches will request for these notebooks to be reviewed to ensure that the players’ understanding of the drills, set plays and coaching points are understood.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
The role of the parent is critical to the success of the National Program. It is, therefore, important that you follow the guidelines set forth below:
- Parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from practices on time.
- Please refrain from interfering with practice session. This is to keep the players’ concentration and focus entirely on training.
- Fulfill your volunteer obligation willingly, knowing that the effort put forth will directly impact your daughter’s national experience.
- Support your daughter(s) and her team in a positive manner. At the same token, support and discipline on commitment to train at a higher level.
- Always show respect for all players, coaches, game officials, and other fans. Allow for the fact that anyone can make a mistake. Set a positive example for our children with your behavior.
- Sign up to be a team parent. Organizing phone lists and fundraising events.
OPEN/CLOSED PRACTICE
Please keep in mind that this is the national team training and such training is to be serious. There will be ‘Open’ and ‘Closed’ practices. Any closed practices scheduled, no one will be permitted to be at the field except for the players and the coaches. This is to ensure that the players are training at the highest level without distractions of any kind.
It is with sincere request that everyone supports this program for its success.
This basic policy does not incorporate all the requirements that players will need to abide by but this provides the most important facets. If the players feel that they cannot meet these requirements, it will reduce their opportunity to make the Women’s National Team for 2007. |
